How to deal with Pain.

Do you have pain?

make the pain stop

Movement is the last thing we want to do when we are hurting but it’s the first thing the body needs.

Or maybe if someone asked do you have tension? Tightness? Stiffness?

These after all are precursors to what can turn into pain….ya see…pain is the last thing to come and the first thing to go in the body.

Out bodies are very resilient and our Creator made it so that we wouldn’t just fall apart after one muscle or tendon gets injured - but what we see then is compensation by other muscles, joints, tendons, ligaments…structures and movements patterns. In the words: Other things happening that shouldn’t and this creates tension, tightness, stiffness - all giving us a warning that our body isn’t working as well as it should.

Does that mean we need to freak out with every sensation we feel?

ABSOLUTELY NOT.

BUT it does mean we need to check in without bodies.

Take a survey of what you actually feel and move into it.

We get so busy it’s hard to check in with out own bodies. I am one to talk…I am horrible at being still and checking in.

How do we do that?

  1. Do a daily survey of what you feel. Start top and work down or bottom and work up. Think…head, nose, mouth, ears, neck, breathing, right shoulder, right arm, right elbow, r forearm, wrist, hand, fingers….back to the L shoulder, arm, elbow, forearm, wrist, hand, fingers ——back to the middle of the chest - where is your breath? How are you breathing? Where are your ribs? Upper back? Belly button? Lower belly to R hip, booty, thigh front and back, knee, shin, calf, ankle, foot toes and back to the L lower belly, hip, booty, thigh, front and back of the thigh, knee, shin, calf, ankle, foot and toes.

  2. Move - whatever doesn’t feel right - if it hurts - try starting with moving it forward, backwards, side to side, then circles.

  3. If that doest work - hold positions and stretch the ones that feel tight or restricted.

  4. Still no luck? Add some heat or ice…usually the body like heat for something thats not an acute injury to bring blood flow and help get things moving!

  5. If that doesn’t work - find someone who can work on those tight structures for you…but the MOST IMPORTANT THING AFTER the hands on care and treatment is to address the original problem or issue…what is weak or not moving well that is making the rest of the region compensate.

If you are tired of the same old stuff at the PT clinic - try something different.

Priority is built for you and was created to tailor every single visit to be based on what you are experiencing. We understand that pain is more than just a symptom but it affects so many of our body’s systems.

Hope this helps! Reach out if you need help!! Some joints are really cool bc they need a LOT of different movement.
